TEHRAN (Dispatches) – The recent victory of the Gazans over the occupying regime of Israel is an important achievement of the Islamic Awakening, an international conference on the Muslim uprisings was told here on Monday.

Iran's Ali Akbar Velayati told the conference of Muslim University Professors and Islamic Awakening that a “new regional and global atmosphere” has opened which made such achievements possible.

The conference, held with the theme of advancing justice and religious democracy, began with the participation of more than 600 scholars from about 75 countries.

Velayati, who is a senior advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said Palestine has been the main priority of the Islamic Awakening movement and one of the main concerns in Iran’s foreign policy.

“The Palestinian resistance succeeded in exposing the vulnerabilities of the Zionist regime and the ceasefire to which this regime submitted indicated its weakness and retreat,” he sai9d.

Over 160 Palestinians, including women and children, were martyred and about 1,200 others were injured in the Israeli attacks on Gaza that were carried out during the eight-day period of November 14-21.

In retaliation, the Palestinian resistance fighters fired rockets and missiles into the occupied cities, killing at least six Israelis.

Egypt announced on November 21 that the occupying regime and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas had reached a ceasefire agreement.

Velayati said the Zionist regime had to accept any Palestinian condition after seeing its military objectives in the offensive go awry.

He said the new wave of Islamic Awakening is now approaching “an important and fateful” juncture.

“Despite facing certain challenges and problems, the Islamic Awakening has achieved great successes and in some cases has entered the stage of state-building,” the Iranian official added.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also addressed the conference, underling the unique and prominent role of scholars and academics in reforming societies and facilitating the realization of the ideals of humankind.

Ahmadinejad said scholars and scientists must improve the world through enhancing knowledge.

“The problems that you see, including oppression, arrogance, wars, acts of occupation, massacres, the issue of Palestine, slavery, imperialism, systematic plundering of nations’ wealth and killings, have all occurred because some people have forgotten their human truth,” the president told the audience.

The Iranian president said reaching the pinnacle of perfection and realizing the rule of justice and freedom in the world is the common goal of all human beings.

“Islam belongs to all human beings; therefore, Islamic Awakening also belongs to all human beings in the world,” Ahmadinejad said.
