The Associated Press and a military research institute revealed in a report on Monday that the US attack on residential areas in Lamerd was carried out with targeted strike missiles (Prism).

The Associated Press confirmed in an investigative report on Monday that the attack on the sports hall in the city of Lamerd in Fars province on February 28 was carried out by the United States with targeted strike missiles (Prism).

The Associated Press described the targeted strike missiles (Prism, in English: PrSM PRI-zim) as a “lethal weapon” that the US military used for the first time on the first day of the war against Iran.

According to the report, research by a group called Airwars, which works in the field of military conflicts, shows that the missile can apparently disperse a large number of metal pellets over a wide area, making it very dangerous to use near residential areas.

Airwars’ investigation found that three missiles that hit the southern Iranian city of Lamerd on February 28 killed civilians within 50 meters of the blast site and caused damage more than three times that distance.

The group said the missiles exploded over a sports complex and two residential areas. Iranian officials said at least 21 people were killed in the attack, including seven children.

Photos, videos and satellite imagery of the aftermath of the Lamerd attacks, reviewed by Airwars and confirmed by The Associated Press, show buildings, streets and cars damaged in a widespread, patchy pattern of impact damage, a pattern experts say is consistent with the missile’s capabilities.

The U.S. military has confirmed it has fired Prism missiles into Iran, but has denied attacking Lamerd.

The Associated Press wrote that it was not yet clear who the intended target in Lamerd was.

Six weapons experts, including two former military officials, told The Associated Press that they believe Prism missiles hit Lamerd and that they did not believe Israeli or Iranian missiles were used in the attack.

All of the experts stressed that militaries should avoid firing the missiles at targets near civilian areas.

“It’s difficult to find a justifiable reason to use Prism in a densely populated area,” said Michael Meyer, a former U.S. military adviser on the laws of war.
