وَاصْبِرُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ

“And be patient. Indeed, Allah is with those who are patient.”

— Qur’an 8:46

In this verse, patience (صبر) does not simply mean enduring hardship in silence. In the Qur’anic sense, patience means remaining steadfast and not allowing fear, anger, disappointment, or hardship to pull you away from what is right.

The verse comes in the context of remaining united, obeying Allah and His Messenger, and avoiding conflict:

وَأَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَلَا تَنَازَعُوا فَتَفْشَلُوا وَتَذْهَبَ رِيحُكُمْ وَاصْبِرُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ

“And obey Allah and His Messenger, and do not dispute with one another, lest you lose courage and your strength depart; and be patient. Indeed, Allah is with those who are patient.”

The beautiful part is the expression:

إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ

“Indeed, Allah is with those who are patient.”

It does not say that Allah is only with you after the hardship has passed. It says “Allah is with the patient.”

There is comfort in those words: when life becomes difficult, you are not necessarily alone. If you remain steadfast, keep doing what is right, and refuse to let hardship take you away from your values, Allah is with you.

And patience does not mean doing nothing. You can strive, make decisions, defend what is right, seek solutions, and move forward. Sabr means taking action without allowing fear, anger, or despair to control you.

Sometimes the greatest strength is not in escaping the hardship, but in remaining faithful while you walk through it.

إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَ الصَّابِرِينَ

Indeed, Allah is with those who are patient.
