According to some local sources, he is identified as a son of Imam Musa al-Kadhim (AS) and, consequently, as a brother of Imam Ali al-Rida (AS), the eighth Imam of the Twelver Shi'a. This is the tradition that has led to Imamzadeh Abdullah (AS) being widely known as one of the brothers of Imam Reza (AS).
