Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has stationed thousands of its forces along the borders with Iraq to protect the Iranian pilgrims on the eve of massive annual Arbaeen rallies, marking the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of the Imam Hossein Ibn Ali (AS).
Millions of Muslims peacefully walk from various towns and cities in Iraq and other countries toward Karbala to mourn for the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (Peace be upon him and his progeny).
"Over 5,000 troops of IRGC's Hazrat Vali-e Asr Corps of Khuzestan Province are stationed along Shalamcheh and Chazaba borders to help and protect the Iranian pilgrims," Commander of IRGC's Vali-e Asr Corps, Brigadier General Hassan Shahvarpour, told FNA on Sunday.
He reiterated that the security of the Iranian pilgrims has been fully maintained.
