President Hassan Rouhani late on Friday night said US President Donald Trump’s speech against the Islamic Republic earlier the same day was nothing more than insults and delirious talk.
He said in a televised speech: “Mr. Trump’s remarks on Iran contained nothing but expletives and a pile of delusional allegations against the Iranian nation.”
Rouhani advised the inexperienced US president to study world history, geography, culture and politics, in order to improve his comprehension of international obligations and global ethics, diplomatic etiquette and conventions.
He pointed to the history of US antagonism toward Iran, saying, "He has to study history better and more closely and know what they (US officials) have done to the Iranian people over the past sixty-odd years and how hostile they have been toward the people of Iran during the past 40 years of the Islamic Revolution."
The Iranian president brushed aside Trump's demand that the 7-nation 2015 international nuclear deal regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear programme, be revised, making it clear that no article or paragraph would be added or taken away from the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action).
He added: “He [Trump] apparently does not know that this is not a bilateral document between Iran and the US for him to act in any way he wishes.”
According to Mehr News Agency, the Iranian president said: “Tonight, it became apparent that the JCPOA is a far stronger agreement than what Trump had previously assumed,” Rouhani said. “Trump said he intends to add some articles to the JCPOA with the help of his Congress, but they must know that they can do no such thing.”
He said: “A nation that adheres to democracy thanks to its culture and faith and respects international regulations is not a rebel; the country which kills hundreds of thousands of people with bombs in everywhere, from Vietnam to Latin America and to other countries is the rebel. It is strange the US claims to fight against using nuclear weapons, while it is the only country that used them against another country, not once, but twice.”
He further remarked: “You created the regional wars; did you forget what you did to the people of Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and other countries? You voice concern about Iran's missiles? But you sell your weapons to the aggressors and threaten the oppressed Yemeni people with bombs and planes. You never objected to these aggressions and entered the region into crisis.”
Rouhani reminding the US and others of how they had failed to defeat Iran in the 1980s when they had lined up behind Saddam of the repressive Ba’th minority regime of Baghdad during the imposed war, said: “The Iranian nation has not yielded to any power and will not do so in the future.”
He also emphasized that the Islamic Republic has cooperated and would continue its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency as long as the country’s interests are protected and its rights are preserved, but, he added: “If one day our interests are not served, we will not hesitate even one moment to give a decisive response.”
Rouhani referring to Trump's threats of sanctions against the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), said: “The IRGC is a powerful force and the people are always standing by it. Is it the IRGC that is corrupt or regimes and armed forces who have always intervened in this region against the independence of nations?”
He derided US support for certain Arab regimes that have never held elections, and recalling the criminal downing of the Iranian passenger plane in 1988 by the US, said: “We have always been resolute to defend our country, and we are even more so now.”
