TEHRAN – Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri has demanded that the United States apologize to Iran for the recent violation of the country’s airspace by a U.S. spy drone.

Iran announced on December 4 that an advanced RQ-170 unmanned U.S. spy plane, which had penetrated 250 kilometers into Iran’s airspace, has been downed by the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic but did not say when the incident occurred.

“The U.S. government should quickly apologize for this illegal and hostile move,” Jazayeri said on Saturday.

The general warned that Iran’s response to a violation of its sovereignty will not be limited to its geographical borders.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s defensive measures will not be limited to (Iran’s) geographical borders,” he said. “U.S. government’s unacceptable actions will increase this country’s costs.”

Through such incursion the U.S. has endangered world security, so the international community must deal with U.S. illegal moves more strictly and purposefully, the IRGC official added.
