Iran's deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs says the current crisis in Bahrain should be resolved through diplomacy, not military intervention.

According to Press TV, in a meeting with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on Monday, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian called for the withdrawal of foreign forces as the first confidence-building step in Bahrain.

He added that the problem in Bahrain should be resolved through diplomacy and by taking practical measures to meet the people's demands and reduce the gap between the government and the nation.

Pointing to the ongoing developments in Syria, the Iranian official stressed the importance of dialogue between the Syrian nation and government and announced Iran's opposition to Israeli-backed foreign intervention in that country.

The Kuwaiti foreign minister, for his part, pointed to Iran's very important role in regional developments and expressed hope that the forthcoming visit by Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to Tehran would further strengthen bilateral relations.

Sheikh Ahmad al-Sabah stated that relations between Kuwait and Tehran were based on mutual respect and non-interference in one another's internal affairs.
