The Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, said on Sunday that the support of world nations, especially Muslims, for the Islamic Resistance of Palestine is deep-rooted and strategic, and solidly behind the Resistance groups.

In a meeting in Tehran with Palestine's elected Prime Minister, Ismail Haniyeh, he said that it is the spirit of resistance which is the driving force behind the victories of the Palestinian people as well as the Islamic Awakening sweeping the region. He added that materialization of all other victories in the future, as promised by God Almighty, is also indebted to this same spirit of resistance.

The Leader further pointed to the brave resistance of the besieged people of Gaza and disgraceful defeat of the Zionist entity during the 22-day holocaust unleashed by Israel in December 2008- January 2009. He said the elation among the people of the region concerning the heroic events of the 22-day war have undoubtedly acted as a catalyst for the recent volcanic uprisings in the region.

Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khameni cautioned against any attempts that may weaken the Resistance, and said all should be watchful against infiltration of compromising elements in the Resistance Movement since any slackening of attitude would lead to negative ramifications.

He was confident of the unwavering sense of resistance of the Palestinian people.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution pointed to the fate of the Late Palestinian Leader, Yasser Arafat, who lost popularity and credibility amongst the regional nations because of his deviation from the path of Resistance. He made it clear that "Resistance and steadfastness is the great merit to attract the hearts of nations, hence should be preserved."

Ayatollah Khamenei underlined that the Islamic Republic has always considered the issues of Palestine as its own, and said Iran is steadfast regarding Palestine and will always be alongside the Palestinian people and the Resistance Movement.

Ismail Haniyeh, for his part, thanked for the support of the Iranian government and people for the Palestinian Resistance, and said the elected government based in Gaza will pursue three goals against the illegal Zionist entity, that is, liberation of all Palestine – including Bayt al-Moqaddas – unflinching resistance while refuting any compromise, and emphasis on the Islamic nature of the issues of Palestine.

Yesterday Haniyeh had the honour to address the grand millions-strong rally of the people of Tehran at Azadi Square on the occasion of the 33rd anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution, where he vowed to the cheering people that Hamas and the Palestinian Resistance will never grant legitimacy to the usurper state of Israel.
