Non-Aligned Movement experts meeting began in Tehran on Sunday.

The meeting of NAM Foreign Ministers will be held for two days from August 27-28 with the NAM Summit slated for August 29-30.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of NAM experts meeting, Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said Non-Aligned Movement leaders should adopt a stand against western sanctions at a Tehran summit later this week.

Salehi added that many NAM members backed Iran’s nuclear program.

“The NAM... should seriously confront unilateral sanctions of certain nations against some members of the NAM,” Salehi said in the speech opening days of preparatory meetings for the summit on Thursday and Friday.

He noted that ‘so far, the NAM has condemned these measures’. Salehi added that ‘we take this opportunity to thank NAM for its support’ for Iran’s ‘legitimate rights’ to nuclear activities. Iran is under US and EU sanctions aimed at crippling its oil exports over its peaceful nuclear program that many western governments claim is aimed at acquiring an atomic weapons capability.
