TEHRAN (Dispatches) -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Monday reaffirmed Iran’s clear stance on the Syria issue, warning of plots by arrogant powers to break anti-Zionist resistance by targeting Syria.

“The reality of the Syria issue is that the arrogant front intends to eliminate the connecting link of the resistance chain in the region which is located in the neighborhood of the Zionist usurper regime,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in a meeting with Iranian Hajj officials.

The Leader underlined preventing arms flow into Syria as the only solution to the country’s crisis.

Ayatollah Khamenei said it is natural for any government to counter the opposition when they receive arms from outside the country.

The Leader emphasized that if the Syrian opposition groups laid down their arms, it would be possible for them to demand the government to hear their views and allow them to express their positions.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei said the Hajj ritual accounts for unity, greatness and collective aspect of the Muslim world.

The Leader said all should exercise vigilance to prevent escalation of discord between Shia and Sunni Muslims.

The Hajj ritual accounts for worship, supplication and political and social presence in global developments, the Leader said.

"Before the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, Iranian pilgrims focused on performing the rituals, but the significant event covers important issues such as a collective aspect, greatness and unity which are the keys to humanity."

The Leader said the hostile approach to divide the Shia and Sunni Muslims is not something new and has roots in the past, adding the enemies have escalated their campaign to divide the Muslim community for their own agenda.

"The current unrest and political differences in Syria are an example of this political agenda."

Ayatollah Khamenei thanked officials of Hajj organization for rendering invaluable services to the Iranian pilgrims.
