Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, on Thursday warned against any move that may push Iran back into the era of US domination of the country.
According to IRIB World Service, addressing Iran’s Air Force Commanders and Staff in Tehran on the occasion of the National Air Force Day, marking the historic occasion, when in 1979, the Air Force Officers had given their pledge of allegiance to the Father of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini (RA) in the crucial days leading to the victory of the people's movement to rid the country of domestic despotism and foreign hegemony, he said the nation will hold accountable anyone, who either intentionally or unintentionally indulges in any move that would lead to re-imposition of US dominance over Iran.
He dismissed the notion of direct talks with Washington, pointing out that US policy in the region has failed and the Americans are merely seeking a trump card to make up for their defeats.
Ayatollah Khamenei considered the bid to bring Iran to the negotiation table as a trump card for the US, which wants the world to believe that it has good intentions, while there is nothing to substantiate such claims.
He referred to the US offer of four years ago to hold talks with Iran, saying it was stressed at that time Iran does not make prejudgments, and as has been obvious over the past four years, the US has done nothing but intensified its plots, increased support for seditionists and backed terrorists in martyring Iranian scientists.
The Leader made it clear that talks can be meaningful only when two sides enter negotiations with good-intentions, as equals and without any subterfuge, which means "talks-for-talks", "tactical talks", and the notion of "direct talks" for propelling a superpower image for the world is nothing but a deceptive act.
He then addressed the Americans, saying: “You point a gun at the Iranian nation and say either ‘talks’ or 'we fire’. Beware, pressure and negotiations are not compatible, and the Iranian nation will not be awed by such tactics.”
Ayatollah Khamenei noting that the Iranian nation is vigilant and unfazed by such deceitful moves, reiterated that the dignified, prudent and steadfast nation of Iran, in a national and revolutionary move, by its massive and united presence in rallies across the country on the 22nd of Bahman (February 10), will once again foil the enemy plot to drive a wedge between the Islamic system and the people.
He then pointed to the great distance traversed made by the Iranian nation when compared to its situation 34 years ago, saying: “Our people have taught other nations that it is ‘possible’ and ‘essential’ to stand against the domineering powers with trust in God Almighty in order to continue their independent, progressive and successful march.”
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution called foresight and vigilance as keys to success against the enemies, and said: Thanks to public awareness and insight, the people of Iran have uncovered the US-Zionist hands in all plots, without any error of judgment in their decision, and this fact, is indeed a great national merit.
