Saab Shaath, author and Middle East expert from Belfast, told Press TV in an interview Tuesday that the Israelis "see Takfiris doing the same thing desecrating Islamic sites all over the Arabic world especially in Libya, in Syria, even in the Arabian Peninsula and no one is condemning them or stopping them in order to protect the Islamic site. So they take that kind of psychology and implement it in Jerusalem.”
The comment comes as the Israelis have recently raided the al-Aqsa Mosque in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) and clashes broke out between Israeli forces and Palestinians leaving dozens of Palestinian worshipers injured.
Israel "wants to build a synagogue on the al-Aqsa Mosque compound as part of a future effort to convert the al-Aqsa mosque into the Solomon Temple and Judaize the whole of al-Quds,” says Shaath.
He added, ”They expect Muslims to wake up one morning and hear the al-Aqsa Mosque has disappeared because it has collapsed due to excavation beneath. “
Almost on a daily basis, Israeli troops force their way into the ranks of Palestinian worshippers, triggering scuffles.
Palestinians are extremely angry at these raids, considering them as the desecration of the Islamic holy site.
Tensions have escalated since Israel decided earlier this week to expand the entrance into the Noble Sanctuary under a tourist attraction plan. Palestinians say the plan is a unilateral change in the status of the sensitive holy site.
