Qatar is small, but wealthy Persian Gulf littoral state, which dreams of turning into a regional power. It was this ambition of the former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa, that as of the year 2011 led Doha to meddle in the domestic affairs of Arab countries.

The officials of the interim Libyan government have time and again accused Qatar of interference in the internal affairs of this North African country. The critics of Doha believe the Qatari officials wrongly imagine they can interfere in the internal affairs of Libya and empower figures close to Qatar.
