Iraq, Syria, Libya and Egypt accuse Qatar of supporting terrorism

As of the year 2011, Qatar has turned into one of the main supporters of terrorist outfits in the region, while the governments of Iraq, Syria, Libya, and Egypt have accused the Qatari administration of sponsoring terrorism. After the Egyptian Envoy to Arab League, Tareq Adel, accused Qatar of supporting terrorism, the Qatari Foreign Ministry summoned this country’s ambassador to Cairo for what it referred to as consultations over the recent accusations leveled against Qatar by the Egyptian envoy to Arab League, amid the mounting tensions between the two countries.

Qatar is small, but wealthy Persian Gulf littoral state, which dreams of turning into a regional power. It was this ambition of the former Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa, that as of the year 2011 led Doha to meddle in the domestic affairs of Arab countries.

One of the most important dimensions of Qatar’s meddlesome foreign policy is its support for terrorist outfits, especially in Syria and Iraq. Qatar provides financial and military assistance to terrorist groups.

Qatar, without having precise information of a particular group, finances these terrorist groups to operate against the Syrian ruling system. This is while the related terrorist groups’ ringleaders make use of all means to be further financed by the Qatari administration.

This policy has been adopted by Qatar in Syria and other Arab countries with the goal of empowerment of figures, close to Doha, in these countries, including Libya.

The officials of the interim Libyan government have time and again accused Qatar of interference in the internal affairs of this North African country. Now, the officials of the Egyptian administration, after the officials of Iraq, Syria, and Libya, have accused the Qatari administration of support for terrorism and have named the policies of Doha as one of the root causes of mounting instability and chaos in Libya.

The critics of Doha believe the Qatari officials wrongly imagine they can interfere in the internal affairs of Libya and empower figures close to Qatar.
