TEHRAN (Dispatches) -- Western countries supported Muammar Gaddafi when it suited them but bombed the Libyan dictator when he no longer served their purpose in order to "plunder" the north African country's oil wealth, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday.
While Tehran has applauded the people of Libya for overthrowing the man it considered an illegitimate dictator, Ahmadinejad warned Libyans that the West now aimed to run their country for them.
"Show me one European or American president who has not traveled to Libya or has not signed an agreement (with Gaddafi)," Ahmadinejad said in a speech broadcast live in which he accused the West of ordering the former leader's execution.
"Some people said they killed this gentleman to make sure he would not be able to say anything, just like what they did to bin Laden," he said.
"According to reliable news, the hegemonic powers are now dividing Libyan resources among themselves to plunger the wealth of Libyan nation," the president added.
Ahmadinejad derided the West's approach to the Security Council, which he called an "organization with no honor", saying the UN resolution to take action against Gaddafi was used as an authorization to "plunder" Libyan oil.
"Any decision that would strengthen the presence, domination or influence of foreigners would be contrary to the Libyan nation's interests," Ahmadinejad said.
"The expectation of the world of the Libyan nation is that they stand and run the country themselves."
Ahmadinejad said the Western leaders had received money from ousted Libyan leader for their election campaigns.
"If he (referring to Gaddafi) was to be put on trial then he could have said who he had paid money to for their election campaigns and how he had sealed contracts with them. I am not accusing all European leaders but many of them should be blamed for receiving money (from Gaddafi) for their election campaigns," he said.
Ahmadinejad stressed that the world nations are strongly opposed to the hegemonic and militaristic policies of the U.S., and described the Obama administration as the most hated government in the world.
"Today, U.S. rulers are the most hated in the world," Ahmadinejad said.
He underlined the importance of developments on the international scene, saying "the Americans have realized that a huge revolution is going to be happen in the world."
Ahmadinejad further cautioned that the enemies attempt to suppress and derail the ongoing developments in the Islamic states through a very complicated web of military bodies and structures.
The president said global problems have roots in secular thoughts as impious and unjust people rule global centers.
"Throughout history, tyrannical powers tried to promote corruption, tyranny, discrimination, humiliation, poverty and backwardness to attain their sinister goals.
"These tyrannical and polluted powers spared no efforts to impose slavery and colonialism," underlined President Ahmadinejad.
The president said Britain and its allies have plundered natural resources of the Middle East and Africa.
The president called the U.S. and its allies as among the most hated powers in the region, saying "they are quite aware of the fact that new uprising movements are now emerging in the world contrary to their will".
"People are now looking for justice, freedom, dignity as well as the path of holy prophet Muhammad (PBUH)," he said.
"They are now witnessing that people have taken actions against the US, Zionist regime and their alliance," he said.
