Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have held a demonstration in support of the government of President Bashar al-Assad in the port city of Latakia, Press TV reports.
Demonstrators in the northwestern city chanted slogans against foreign intervention in the country and voiced their support for the Syrian government, a Press TV correspondent reported on Thursday.
The demonstrators also carried posters of the Syrian president along with the Russian and Chinese flags.
On October 4, Russia and China vetoed a US-led draft resolution proposed at the UN Security Council that threatened to impose sanctions against Syria over an alleged crackdown on protesters inside the country.
Meanwhile, an Arab League delegation led by Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad al-Thani, met with Assad in Damascus on Wednesday to discuss ways to resolve the months-long unrest in Syria.
A similar demonstration was also held in the capital Damascus on Wednesday, where demonstrators called for national unity.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March, with demonstrations being held both against and in support of President Assad.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March and hundreds of people, including security forces, have been killed in the violence.
While the opposition and Western countries accuses security forces of being behind the killings, the government blames outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups for the deadly violence, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
