Supreme Leader: Iran Considers Iraqi Security as Its Own

Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Tuesday that the Islamic Republic of Iran considers the Iraqi security as its own.

The Supreme Leader made the remarks in a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.

The Supreme Leader said that security, welfare, national sovereignty and dignity of Iraq, which is an important country in the region, is of high significance for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Leader rebuked the transregional powers and certain regional governments for irresponsible policies toward Iraq and Syria.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that Iraqi nation and government, especially the youth of the country, are capable of overcoming terrorists and establish security without need to foreign presence."

The Supreme Leader congratulated Iraqi nation and government on success in the great test of forming the new government.

He commended the endeavors of former Iraqi governments to establish security and resolve the security problems.

The Supreme Leader appreciated the great services of former prime minister Nouri al-Maliki for Iraq and the region.

The Leader said that Iran stands beside Iraq and defends the Iraqi government like former government seriously.

The Supreme Leader said that the Iraqi security is a top priority for Iran.

Ayatollah Khamenei made it clear that security of the regional states are interrelated and that the Islamic Republic of Iran sees Iraq, the brotherly and neighboring country with extensive relations.

Ayatollah Khamenei said the Iraqi government`s policy over the past several years not to allow the Iraqi soil to be used against Syria was a right and prudent policy. "The current situation in the region is the outcome of the very irresponsible behavior of the extra-territorial powers and certain regional states toward Syria requiring firm stand."

The Supreme Leader pointed to claims of fighting Daesh, saying, "We do not have the least belief and confidence in honesty of the claims and believe that the issue of Daesh and terrorism should be cured by regional states."

The Leader said the policy of national and ethnic unity of new Iraqi government is a fully right policy. "Iraq is a geographic entity and division of Shia and Sunni Muslims, Arab and Kurd is meaningless in Iraq."

He said one of the advantages of new Iraqi government like the former government is formation of government based on votes of the people in democratically-held election.

"Certain people do not wish to admit occurrence of such a reality in Iraq and the region but it has happened and Iraqi government should protect the important achievement powerfully."

The Supreme Leader referred to Iraqi youth as an enormous tor Iraqi government and in recent events, all did see how Iraqi youth entered the scene to thwart the menaces of Daesh so bravely.

The Iraqi Prime minister for his part said his country is thankful for the very good stance of the Supreme Leader and Iran`s support in case of Daesh and the campaign against terrorists.

"Unfortunately, certain countries do not notice the size and dimensions of the danger and we believe that with insight of the two Iranian and Iraqi nations and support of Ulema and guidelines of Iranian leader we can pass the critical juncture and push back the terrorists."

The Iraqi Prime Minister referred to certain plots to divide Shia and Sunni Muslims and said Iraqi new government is the government of national unity.

"We are determined to further expand relations between the two countries on various scenes."
