On the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Journalists, Hamas announced in a statement that more than 262 Palestinian journalists have been killed in attacks by the occupying forces.

Marking the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Journalists today (Saturday), the Hamas movement called for increased support for Palestinian journalists and the prosecution of those responsible for crimes against them; the group stated that over 262 journalists and media activists have been killed since October 7, 2023.

The International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Journalists commemorates events in September 1996, when dozens of Palestinian journalists were wounded during protests against the Israeli regime's actions at the Al-Aqsa Mosque; however, Gaza stands as the only place in the world where 262 media personnel have been killed and dozens more wounded within a span of two years.

This mass killing of media personnel is occurring while—according to Hamas—the occupying regime prevents foreign journalists from entering the Gaza Strip, a move intended to suppress the reporting of the realities regarding crimes committed in Gaza.

In the remainder of its statement, Hamas condemned the killing, detention, and forced displacement of journalists, as well as the destruction and closure of media outlets, labeling these acts as war crimes and crimes against humanity. The group called upon the International Federation of Journalists, the Federation of Arab Journalists, and global media organizations to condemn these actions and strive to protect journalists and prosecute the perpetrators. The movement also pointed to the restrictions placed on the activities of Palestinian media outlets and the attempts to prevent the dissemination of their content on social media, stating that these actions demonstrate the effectiveness of the Palestinian narrative in conveying the truth and exposing the crimes of the occupying regime.
