Barely three days after vetoing a US-proposed anti-Iran resolution, China’s Ministry of Commerce has reiterated its opposition to unilateral and secondary US sanctions.

In response to the signing of legislation intensifying sanctions against Iran and Russia, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce stated that Beijing has "consistently" opposed unilateral sanctions and what are termed "secondary sanctions."

On Friday, Trump signed the "Graham Act," a law authorizing the imposition of tariffs on countries that purchase Russian petroleum products and extending certain sanctions against Iran.

In early May, China’s Ministry of Commerce issued a legal directive blocking US sanctions against five Chinese refining companies accused of purchasing Iranian oil, effectively prohibiting the enforcement of US sanctions against Iran.

Four days ago, the country's foreign minister announced that Beijing is prepared to "firmly defend Iran's legitimate rights and interests."

Three days ago, China and Russia vetoed a US-proposed draft resolution regarding anti-Iran sanctions.

Now, China’s Ministry of Commerce states that Beijing will closely monitor Washington's subsequent actions and reserves the right to take "all necessary measures" to safeguard its sovereignty, development interests, and the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
