The Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (SA) and the Days of Fatimiyyah

Lady Fatimah al-Zahra (peace be upon her), the beloved daughter of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), is a symbol of faith, chastity, patience, and the defense of truth. Her martyrdom is one of the sorrowful events in Islamic history, reminding us of the suffering of the Ahl al-Bayt (the Household of the Prophet) and the noble status of this great lady.

Due to differences in historical narrations regarding the exact date of Lady Fatimah’s (SA) martyrdom, Shia Muslims commemorate two periods of mourning known as the Days of Fatimiyyah:

- First Fatimiyyah: Beginning on the 13th of Jumada al-Awwal, based on the narration that her martyrdom occurred 75 days after the passing of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

- Second Fatimiyyah: Beginning on the 3rd of Jumada al-Thani, based on the narration that her martyrdom occurred 95 days after the passing of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The 3rd of Jumada al-Thani is the widely observed date of her martyrdom according to this narration.

These days provide an opportunity to mourn her martyrdom, learn about her life and teachings, and reflect on values such as justice, standing up for truth, modesty, and perseverance.

Conclusion

Commemorating the Days of Fatimiyyah is not merely an expression of grief over the martyrdom of Lady Fatimah (SA); it is also an opportunity to preserve her teachings and follow her example of faith, noble character, and steadfastness.

Peace be upon you, O Fatimah al-Zahra, daughter of the Messenger of Allah.
