Since the people of knowledge consider sin to be poison, they have introduced repentance, atonement, good deeds, and doing good deeds as antidotes that wash away and eliminate the poison. It is not possible for a poisoned person to reach his destination. Therefore, those poisons are washed away beforehand by atonement, repentance, good deeds, and... and a person purified and free from poison finds his way to God, the Eternal.
