Fadak

Land of Fadak

Fadak (Arabic: فدك) is a village in Hijaz, which had lush gardens with date palm trees which was conquered by Muslims after the Battle of Khaybar. The notability of Fadak is because of the quarrel between Lady Fatima (a) and Abu Bakr over its ownership, after the demise of Prophet (s). After Abu Bakr reached caliphate he confiscated Fadak which was gifted to Lady Fatima (a) by the Prophet (s). After Lady Fatima (a) gave evidence, Abu Bakr admitted that he was wrong and wrote a handwriting that no one should encroache on it. But Umar b. al-Khattab took the handwriting and tore it. In the Fadakiyya Sermon Lady Fatima (a) complained about this incident.

During the time of the Umayyads and the Abbasids this area was in the hands of the caliphs. Yet, some of these caliphs, including Umar b. 'Abd al-'Aziz and al-Ma'mun, returned it to the descendants of Lady Fatima (a), but the subsequent caliphs seized them. Today, Fadak is located in a city called al-Hait.

The Lebanese Hezbollah in a statement slammed US President Donald Trump’s so-called ‘Deal of Century’, saying no conspiracy, deal or treason will be able to trample on Palestinians’ rights.

Islamic Ummah is able to destroy this deal soon, according to Lebanese media Hezbollah said in its statement.

Deal of Century is a very dangerous step which will have negative consequences on the future of the region and its nations, it added.

After 10 years supporting enemy, occupation, aggression and massacre against Arab people, the sinister US administration has focused its animosity trying to destroy historic and legal rights of Palestinians.

Hezbollah noted the fact that the deal will not have been created if the clear or hidden collusion and betrayal did not exist.

What happened today in Washington reiterated the fact that the Resistance option is the only choice for liberating the Occupied Territories.

The White House claimed that this Vision is the most serious, realistic, and detailed plan ever presented, one that could make Israelis, Palestinians, and the region safer and more prosperous.

"This Vision is just the first step and provides the basis for historic progress toward peace. The United States hopes this Vision will lead to direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians," it added.

Earlier, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that Muslims must resist the Deal of Century with faith and perseverance.

Stressing that the issue of Palestine is a top priority for the Muslims, Ayatollah Khamenei added that conspiracy of the Deal of the Century set by the US and its puppets amounted to Crimes Against Humanity.

The Supreme Leader invited the Muslims to actively participate in the campaign against the conspiracy, saying that God willing the Deal of the Century is doomed to fail.

Hezbollah said: "What happened today in Washington confirms that resistance is the only option to liberate the land and restore the sanctities. All the other negotiating options do not return the land nor liberate prisoners but rather push the enemy towards further aggression and arrogance.

"We applaud the Palestinian people, its leaders and resistance factions for being at the forefront rejecting and confronting, with full force, the so-called deal of the century. Their brave stances have become the compass for our Arab and Islamic peoples, which have lost confidence in many of their regimes and rulers. And they believe that the Palestinian people will be the beacon of hope at this stage as they have been in the past."

Hezbollah made clear that all conspiracies, deals and betrayals cannot eradicate the Palestinians’ right to their lands and sanctities and the right of return to their villages and cities, stressed that "our nation and its vigilant people are able to topple this deal soon and thwart its effects, God willing."

Erdogan: Trump's plan for Mideast unacceptable

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan rejected his US counterpart Donald Trump's plan for the Middle East, saying that the plan is absolutely unacceptable.

In a statement late on Tuesday, he reiterated that Palestine people and land are not for sale, declaring that the plan is stillborn.

Beit ul-Moqaddas is among the sanctities of Muslims and the plan to cede Quds to Israel is in no way acceptable.

Describing Israel's sovereignty over Quds as totally unacceptable, he said that the plan will do nothing for solving the issue of Palestine, as it is an attempt to make Palestinians accept new stances.

The plan is to disregard Palestinian rights and legitimize Israeli occupation, he said.

Tehran, Jan 29, IRNA - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a Twitter message described Trump's so-called 'Deal of Century' as the most despicable plan.

"Enough of these foolish attempts," President Rouhani wrote on his Twitter account.

"The Most Despicable Plan of the Century," he added.

Earlier, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said in a message that the US evil policy against Palestine and the so-called 'Deal of Century' will never materialize.

"To the dismay of US politicians, the satanic, evil US policy about Palestine —the so-called #DealOfTheCentury— will never bear fruit, by the grace of God," Supreme Leader's official Twitter account reported.

"About the Judaization of #alQuds and saying it should be in the hands of the Jews, they’re talking foolishly & unwisely," he added.

"The issue of #Palestine will never be forgotten, the Supreme Leader noted.

He reiterated: "The Palestinian nation and all Muslim nations will definitely stand up to them and not allow the so-called #DealOfCentury to be realized."

Spiritual Fraternity

Spiritual Fraternity

The pre-Islamic era was a stage of tragedies in the various mental and material fields. Moral dissolution and disorder were the most horrible tragedies that caused people to practice natures of beasts, law of jungle, disagreement, fighting, killing, usurpation, and declamation of revenge and retaliation.

When the dawn of Islam rose to spread its lights over humankind, it could, through its immortal principles and unparalleled constitution, stop these tragedies and cut off these combats. Then, it changed these ignorant herds into the best nation that ever existed among humanity. Faith replaced atheism, order replaced disorder, knowledge replaced ignorance, peace replaced war, and mercy replaced retaliation.

Thus, these concepts faded away and were replaced by the new Islamic principles. The Prophet (pbuh&hp) began to establish that ideal nation whose individuals were unique in order, morals, and perfection. As they progressed under the pennon of the holy Quran and the leadership of the Prophet (pbuh&hp), Muslims flew in the horizons of generosity until they could achieve the principle of fraternity in such a method that could not be achieved by any other code. Moreover, the ties of belief became stronger than those of kinship, and, likewise, the bonds of faith exalted over the tribal and national bonds. Muslims, hence, became a united nation of compact lineup, high edifice, and fluttering pennon:

People, We have created you all male and female and have made you nations and tribes so that you would recognize each other. The most honorable among you in the sight of Allah is the most pious of you. Allah is All-knowing and All-aware.(1) The holy Quran went on implanting the concepts of spiritual fraternity in the mentalities through numerous Verses compacted by a remarkable and wise style. The Quran, once, legislates fraternity as a law that should be applied by Muslims: Believers are each other's brothers. Restore peace among your brothers. Have fear of Allah so that perhaps you will receive mercy.(2)

On another occasion, the Quran confirms the law of fraternity and warns against factors of disagreement, reminding of the grace of the Islamic fraternity and harmony after long periods of disagreement and fighting: All of you united hold fast to the rope of Allah, and recall how He favored you when your hostility to each other had torn you apart. He united your hearts in one faith and through His grace you became brothers.(3) In abstract, Islam has exerted all efforts for strengthening the spiritual fraternity among Muslims and protecting it against trends of disagreement and separation through the constitution of the social ties.

As a model, we provide the following:

The Islamic constitution of the social ties took Muslims emotions and feelings far above the slavery of the tribal sectarianism to guide them to the noblest aim; namely, the obedience to God and the seeking of His satisfaction. Love, hate, giving, deprivation, support, and disappointment all these should be for the sake of God. Such being the case, the handles of fraternity will become firmer and Muslims will become the like of the well-established building each part of which strengthens the other.

The Prophet (pbuh&hp) said: The mutual love of the believers that is intended sincerely for the sake of Allah is one of the greatest classes of faith. He who loves, hates, gives, deprives all for the sake of Allah is surely one of the choices of Allah. Imam As-Sejjad (a) said: When Allah will gather the past and the late generations on the Day of Resurrection, a caller that everybody will hear will cry out on those who loved each other for the sake of Allah. A few people will stand up. They will be sent to Paradise without being rendered to judgment.

In their way to Paradise, the angels will meet and ask them. We are going to our abodes in Paradise without being rendered to judgment, they will answer. As the angels ask them about their class, they will answer, We loved each other for the sake of Allah. As the angels ask them about their deeds due to which they have gained such a rank, they will answer, We loved and hated for the sake of Allah. The angels then will say: Very well is the reward of the doers of charity.

Imam Al-Baqir (a) said: If you want to know whether you are to the good or not, you should test your heart: if it loves the people of obedience to Allah and hates the people of disobedient to Him, you are then to the good and Allah loves you. If your heart hates the people of the obedience to Allah and loves the people of the disobedience to Him, you are then not to the good and Allah hates you. Certainly, man will be attached to the one whom he loved.

Imam As-Sadiq (a) said: On the Day of Resurrection, those who love each other purely for the sake of Allah will be on luminous stages; the light of their faces, bodies, stages, and everything will be shining so that shining will be their distinctive feature and everybody will point to them and say those loved each other for the sake of Allah. He who does not love or hate for the sake of the religion is not Muslim.

The Islamic constitution of the social ties enjoined Muslims to adhere to the factors of coalition, dignity, and luxury, such as exhorting each other to the right, helping each other in fields of piety, supporting each other for the achievement of justice, and joining the forces in the economical fields of life. According to the Islamic Sharia, all Muslims are one family whose matters of happiness and unhappiness are the same. The constitution of such a family is: Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah and those with him are stern to the disbelievers yet kind among themselves.(4)

And The slogan is “the saying of the Prophet (pbuh&hp): He who begins his day without caring for the affairs of the Muslims is not a Muslim. The Islamic constitution of the social ties warned Muslims against all factors of separation, hostility, obscenity, backbiting, tale bearing, breach, and cheating as well as all other matters that arouse seditions and rancor. The Muslims principal in this point is the Prophets saying: The true believer is only he whom Muslims can trust in regard with their estates and souls. The true Muslim is only he whom Muslims are saved from his hand “physical harm- and tongue- verbal harm-. The true Muhajir “emigrant- is that who deserts the sins.

The Islamic constitution of the social ties granted the opportunities of improving friendly relations between Muslims, such as exchanging visits, frequenting religious circles, and witnessing Islamic gatherings such as collective prayers, hajj, and the like.

3. (The Glorious Quran 3:103)

4. (The Glorious Quran 48:29)

Finding appropriate clothes can be one of the challenging issues of Muslim women. Living in modern societies necessitates its own lifestyle, including dress code and style, which is different in the four corners of the world. If a woman decides to choose Islam as her faith, what shall she wear?

Once, Imam Sadiq (AS) was wearing a nice expensive suit. A man called Sufiyan Souri saw him in The Holy Mosque and said: “O The son of Allah’s Prophet, I swear to Him that Neither Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP), nor Imam Ali (AS) and none of your forefathers wore such an expensive suit!”

He answered: “They were living at a time when most of the people were poor and in need. But today is different. Most people are living a good wealthy, abundant life. This is the time when the good servants of Allah are the most deserving to take advantage of Allah’s blessings.”

Then he recited this verse of the Holy Quran:

Say," Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has brought forth for His servants, and the good things of [His] provision?" Say," These are for the faithful in the life of this world, and exclusively for them on the Day of Resurrection." Thus do We elaborate on the signs for people who have knowledge. Quran (7: 32) [1]

Islam does not forbid us from wearing clothes in line with the society, geographical location, culture, and tradition of the age and country we are living in, but it has some considerations. First, we need to discuss them in general and then refer to the issue of Muslim women.

muslim women

1. Muslim Women Should Avoid The Peacock Effect!

Standing out and attracting the attention of the people around may cause disrespect and disregard for a Muslim woman or man. Peacocking undignifies the human soul and rather values the physical attractions of the human body. A believing Muslim considers everyone, and never pretends to be rich or poor with the dress he/she wears. Muslim women are special in that field, meaning that Islam insists on their dressing in a particular way. They are believed to be worthy of their soul, their femininity, and above all, for their humanity, not their sexual attractions, which can be a cause of abuse or disrespect in society.

Peacocking is not just a matter of wearing cheap and worn-out clothes or expensive luxurious suits, but it consists of any clothing which attracts irregular attention either with its color, thickness, texture, smell, or even its design.

Imagine that you have attended a funeral in India. White is the color of mourning, and red is the color of feasts and marriage. At that funeral, you encounter a person wearing a red dress, with lots of jewelry and extravagant style. Everyone looks cross at that person. That will be a sign of disrespect for the mourners and might even cause insult and struggle in the middle of the ceremony. And this is against the Islamic culture which is against disrespect and anything counter social.

2. Men Are Men and Women Are Women.

Genders are different from one another, and a healthy society needs them both, each with their definitive characteristics. So, women should look feminine, and men need to take what is masculine. However, there are clothes which both genders wear; like blouses, suits, and trousers, and nothing is wrong with those. But coloring nails or wearing makeup is pretty strange and unusual on a man, and Islam forbids that kind of peculiar look.

3. Look Like a Muslim Woman, not an Unbeliever!

Wearing clothes that belong to unbelievers makes Muslims look like them; as if they are following their beliefs, commands, etc. For instance, we all know that rotated star in a circle is a sign of Satanism. They are examples of clothes that a believing Muslim is to avoid. Any sign, style, or design which might relate to the unbelieving system of thought makes that person seem to believe or appreciate that system of thinking, be it willingly or unwillingly. Here it necessitates Muslims to think and analyze the clothes they choose to wear.

4. Wear Neat, Pure, and Halal!

The clothes that a Muslim wears must be Halal; meaning that it mustn’t belong to someone else who does not want that person to wear what belongs to him/her. The clothes of a Muslim are pure because they tidy up any sign of untidiness from that. It is neat and clean, the habit which is very much praised in Islam.

Imam Sadiq (AS) says: “wear clothes and adorn yourself. Truly, Allah is beautiful, and He likes beauty, but that has to be Halal.”

He also says: “Allah likes beauty and adornment, and dislikes looking disheveled” [2]

Modern fashion is becoming more and more complicated these days. The coming of new casual or formal styles might put Muslim women in dilemmas. In this case and similar occasions, they just need to remember the considerations above, besides Hijab, which is discussed in our article Hijab in Islam. Tips on the infographic of How to wear Hijab in Islam might be helpful, too.

At last, we need to remember that Islam never forbids anyone from being a person for the age he/she is living in. It just asks everyone to observe the rules of Islam and respect the community and society they are living in.

Iranians are commemorating the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Fatima Zahra (AS), the revered daughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Some mourners also give away food to people in need to mark the occasion.

People from all walks of life are attending mourning ceremonies like this across the country to pay tribute to Hazrat Fatima, the wife of Imam Ali (AS), the first Shia Imam.

Several other Muslim countries, including Iraq, Lebanon and Pakistan, are also marking the occasion, which falls on the third day of the lunar Islamic month of Jamadi al-Thani.

Hazrat Fatima is the mother of the second and third Shia Imams.

The spokesman for Yemen’s Armed Forces says Yemeni army troops and allied fighters from Popular Committees well managed to thwart a large-scale offensive by Saudi-paid militiamen against the capital Sana’a.

“With the help of God Almighty, our armed forces were able to confront a major act of aggression that was targeting the capital, Sana'a. They subsequently launched a counterattack, which led to the liberation of all areas of Nihm district (in Sana’a province). Enemy forces suffered heavy losses as regards military equipment and personnel in the process,” Brigadier General Yahya Saree said at a press conference in Sana’a on Wednesday.

He added that Yemeni soldiers and their allies advanced west of the city of Ma’rib, and wrested control over several areas in the neighboring provinces of Ma’rib and al-Jawf.

Saree highlighted that the liberated areas cover an expanse of more than 2,500 square kilometers.

The high-ranking Yemeni military official went on to say that thousands of Saudi mercenaries were killed, wounded orcaptured during the operation, code-named Solid Structure.

Saree noted that the operation resulted in the complete destruction of three military brigades and twenty battalions of the Saudi forces, and seizure of large quantities of military equipment.

He highlighted that Yemeni forces also fired ballistic missiles and mounted drone strikes against facilities belonging to the Saudi state oil giant Aramco in the kingdom's southern border region of Jizan, targeted Abha International Airport as well as Jizan Regional Airport, and struck King Khalid Air Base near Khamis Mushait besides other sensitive targets in the depth of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies launched a devastating campaign against Yemen in March 2015, with the goal of bringing the government of former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi back to power and crushing the Ansarullah movement.

The US-based Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), a nonprofit conflict-research organization, estimates that the war has claimed more than 100,000 lives over the past nearly five years.

The UN says over 24 million Yemenis are in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 10 million suffering from extreme levels of hunger.

After months of running a vast propaganda machine to drum up support for his self-proclaimed 'Deal of the Century,' US President Donald Trump has finally unveiled what he believes can serve as a final antidote to the bitter and brutal Israeli-Palestinian conflict that has dragged on for seven decades.

Within just hours since its launch, Trump’s proposed deal has aroused a storm of indignation and opposition among Middle East people and politicians as well as international organizations, earning descriptions such as 'the treason of the century, nightmare, conspiracy, catastrophe, new Balfour Declaration, an annexation plan, a stillborn agreement, a handbook for more suffering, and a deal for the garbage can of history' among others.

Contrary to Trump’s claim who sought to sell his proposal as a win-win opportunity for both sides, political leaders and activists view it as being hugely skewed in favor of Israel and totally ignoring the rights and demands of up to 15 million Palestinians around the world, leaving them out of a process that is expected to decide their fate and their future.

Opponents argue that the highly pro-Israel scheme offers no prescription for peace because it blatantly violates international law and strips Palestinians of their basic rights on a number of sensitive issues, including the state of Jerusalem al-Quds, the future borders of a sovereign Palestinian state, the return of Palestinian refugees driven from their homeland, security responsibility, as well as Israeli settlements built on occupied land.

Palestinian president dismisses Trump’s plan as ‘conspiracy’

Trump released his proposed deal during an event at the White House alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington on Tuesday.

The so-called 'Vision for Peace' — which all Palestinian groups have unanimously rejected — would, among other contentious terms, enshrine Jerusalem al-Quds as “Israel’s undivided capital” and allow the regime to annex settlements in the occupied West Bank and the Jordan Valley.

Iran’s Leader: Trump’s satanic deal won’t materialize

The Twitter account of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei posted his remarks made in July 2018 in connection with Trump’s scheme.

Speaking at that time, Ayatollah Khamenei said “the satanic and malicious policies of the US towards Palestine, dubbed the deal of the century, will never materialize, with God’s grace.”

The American statesmen say Jerusalem al-Quds should be in the hands of the Jews, but it is “a load of nonsense,” the Leader stated.

“The issue of Palestine will not be forgotten,” he said. “The Palestinian nation and all Muslim nations will definitely stand up against them and prevent the materialization of the deal of the century.”

Amnesty: Unlawful deal exacerbates Israeli violations

Amnesty International has criticized the American proposal as “a handbook for more suffering and abuses” in the occupied territories, urging the global community to reject the measures set out in the deal in contravention of international law.

“While the Trump administration has emphasized the principle of land swaps in its deal, we should make no mistake that it is proposing further annexation of Palestinian territory, which would flagrantly violate international humanitarian law. During more than half a century of occupation Israel has imposed a system of institutionalized discrimination against Palestinians under its rule, denying them basic rights and access to effective remedies for violations. The deal amounts to endorsement of these brutal, unlawful policies,” said Philip Luther, Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Research and Advocacy Director.

He also slammed the deal for putting forward a “compensation mechanism” for Palestinian refugees, instead of granting them their right to return to their homeland.

“Hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees are trapped in overcrowded camps, more than 70 years after they, their parents or grandparents were first forced out of their homes. This proposal ignores refugees’ rights under international law and the decades of suffering they have endured,” Luther said.

Trump outlines contentious Palestine scheme, says Quds will be Israel’s ‘undivided capital’

The US scheme, he added, seeks to undermine international justice after the International Criminal Court (ICC)’s decision last month to launch a full investigation into war crimes in the Palestinian territories.

“A just and sustainable peace requires a plan that prioritizes the human rights of Palestinians and Israelis, and must include justice and reparation for victims of war crimes and other grave violations. This plan not only fails this fundamental test; it seeks to torpedo efforts towards justice for both Palestinians and Israelis that are currently under way.”

Turkey: Mideast deal absolutely unacceptable

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has lambasted the US-proposed deal as “absolutely unacceptable.”

“Jerusalem [al-Quds] is sacred for Muslims. The plan to give Jerusalem to Israel is absolutely unacceptable. This plan ignores Palestinians’ rights and is aimed at legitimizing Israel's occupation,” CNN Turk quoted him as saying.

Earlier, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said the American proposal was “stillborn,” and that the people and land of Palestine were not for sale.

“This is an annexation plan aiming at usurping Palestinian lands and killing the two-state solution,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry noted that Jerusalem al-Quds is a red line in the eyes of Turkey, and that the country would not let Israel justify its occupation and persecution.

“We will always stand by the brotherly people of Palestine. We will continue to work for an independent Palestine within Palestinian lands,” it said, adding that Ankara would not support any plan that is not accepted by the Palestinian authorities and that peace will not materialize in the Middle East without an end to occupation.

Qatar: No peace sans Palestine on 1967 lines

The Qatari Foreign Ministry also emphasized that peace cannot be achieved without safeguarding the Palestinians’ rights by enabling them to establish their own sovereign state on the 1967 boundaries.

The ministry said Doha appreciated what it called American efforts to find solutions to the conflict as long as they are within the framework of international legitimacy.

Israel occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds during the Six-Day War in 1967. It later annexed the city in a move not recognized by the international community.

Palestinian officials say they want the resolution of the conflict with Israel based on the so-called two-state solution along the 1967 boundaries with East Jerusalem al-Quds as their capital.

US disgraceful, imposed plan is treason of century: Iran

Jordan supports independent Palestine on 1967 lines

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi affirmed his country’s support for an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 boundaries with East Jerusalem al-Quds as its capital.

He also warned against “annexation of Palestinian lands” and the “dangerous consequences of unilateral Israeli measures that aim to impose new realities on the ground.”

Safadi further called for direct negotiations to find a comprehensive solution in accordance with established terms of reference, the Arab peace initiative and international law.

“Jordan supports every genuine effort aimed at achieving just and comprehensive peace that people will accept,” he said.

UN backs two-state bid

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the world body supports two states living in peace and security within recognized borders, on the basis of the pre-1967 borders.

"The United Nations remains committed to supporting Palestinians and Israelis to resolve the conflict on the basis of United Nations resolutions, international law and bilateral agreements and realizing the vision of two States - Israel and Palestine - living side by side in peace and security within recognized borders, on the basis of the pre-1967 lines," Guterres' spokesperson Stephane Dujarric quoted the UN chief as saying.

Iraq’s Ayatollah Sistani: US deal hurt Muslim feelings

In a statement released on Wednesday, the office of Iraq’s most prominent Shia cleric Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani strongly condemned the US-devised deal, saying it severely hurt the feelings of hundreds of millions of Arabs and Muslims worldwide.

Influential Iraqi Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr also voiced opposition to Trump’s plan and said “Quds belongs to all religions and Palestine to all freedom-seekers.”

Arab League: Deal’s first reading shows waste of Palestinian rights

Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said on Wednesday that a first reading of Trump’s proposal indicated a great waste of legitimate rights of Palestinians.

However, he added, the 22-member pan-Arab body was “studying the American vision carefully. We are open to any serious effort made to achieve peace.”

The Arab League will convene an urgent meeting on Saturday on the so-called Middle East peace plan.

Hossam Zaki, the body’s deputy secretary, said Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas would attend the meeting in Cairo to discuss the issue.

Abbas had earlier asked the body to convene and discuss ways to oppose the US plan.

“The State of Palestine officially asked for an exceptional meeting of the Arab League on the ministerial level, with the attendance of President Mahmoud Abbas…, to talk about ways to confront what is known as ‘the deal of the century,’” Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt Diab al-Louh said.

Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE welcome US ‘peace efforts’

Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates have welcomed what they called US efforts to establish peace in the Middle East, but underscored the need for dialog between the Israelis and the Palestinians to settle their decades-long dispute.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry said the kingdom supports “all efforts aimed at reaching a just and comprehensive resolution to the Palestinian cause.”

“The kingdom appreciates the efforts of President Trump’s administration to develop a comprehensive peace plan between the Palestinian and the Israeli sides, and encourages the start of direct peace negotiations ... , under the auspices of the United States,” it said in a statement.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry called on both sides to engage in negotiations and “move forward the peace process to reach an agreement that achieves legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.”

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry issued a similar statement, calling on both sides to consider the US proposal.

The ministry appreciated what it called “continuous efforts exerted by the US administration to achieve a comprehensive and just settlement of the Palestinian issue.”

“Egypt recognizes the importance of considering the US administration's initiative from the perspective of the importance of achieving the resolution of the Palestinian issue, thus restoring to the Palestinian people their full legitimate rights through the establishment of a sovereign independent state in the Palestinian occupied territories in accordance with international legitimacy and resolutions,” it added.

It urged both the Israelis and the Palestinians “to undertake a careful and thorough consideration of the US vision to achieve peace and open channels of dialogue, under US auspices, for the resumption of negotiations to present their respective views on reaching an agreement that satisfies the aspirations of both peoples to achieve a comprehensive and just peace and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.”

UAE Ambassador to the US, Yousef al-Otaiba, said his country appreciated US efforts to draw up a “peace” agreement.

“This plan is a serious initiative that addresses many issues raised over the years,” he pointed out, noting that the scheme “offers an important starting point for a return to negotiations within a US-led international framework.”

EU: Trump plan chance for relaunching talks

The European Union has described Trump’s proposals as a chance for renewed talks towards “a viable solution” for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The initiative “provides an occasion to re-launch the urgently needed efforts towards a negotiated and viable solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," the EU’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, said on behalf of the bloc.

He added that the EU would need to study and assess Trump’s proposals.

However, Borrell cautioned that Israel and the Palestinians needed to show “a genuine commitment to the two-state solution as the only realistic way to end the conflict.”
