Following the martyrdom of the honorable Commander Hajj Qasem Soleimani, Imam Khamenei— the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces—issued a decree appointing IRGC Brigadier General Esmaeil Qa’ani as the new Commander of the IRGC. The following is the text of the Commander-in-Chief’s decree:

In the Name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Following the ascent of the lofty martyr, the honorable General Hajj Qasem Soleimani (may God be pleased with him) I appoint the honorable Brigadier General Esmaeil Qa’ani—who has been among the most prominent IRGC Commanders during the Sacred Defense and has served alongside Martyr Soleimani in the Quds Force in the region for years — as the new Commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The strategy of the Quds Force will be identical to that during the time of Martyr General Soleimani. I ask all the colleagues in that Force to accompany and assist General Qa’ani, and I ask God to bestow success, confirmation, and divine guidance upon him.

“The U.S.’s enmity against the Iranian nation” is a concept that has existed in the political-social sphere of Iran for over 60 years now. In his recent meeting with university and school students, the Leader of the Revolution referred to the distortion of history with regards to the starting point of the U.S.’s enmity against the Iranian nation. He stated, “Some distort history. The Americans do this. When I was president and went to the UN, a then well-known American journalist interviewed me at the UN. He cited the capture of the American embassy – the Spy Den – as the starting point for the differences between Iran and the US. He said, ‘From the time your youth took over the embassy, conflict between Iran and the U.S. started.’ However, this is a distorted account of history. This is not the case. The conflict between the Iranian nation and the U.S. began on the 28th of Mordad (the coup d’état in Iran) and even before that.” [Nov. 3, 2019] Therefore, Khamenei.ir has listed some of the most important examples of the U.S.’s enmity against the Iranian nation before the takeover of the American embassy (the spy den).

1. The coup d'état on the 28th of Mordad, in 1953
The differences between the Iranian nation and the US began on the 28th of Mordad[19 August 1953] and even before that. On the 28th of Mordad, the differences reached their peak. It was they who behaved in a treacherous and malicious way by making the Iranian nation suffer from a corrupt and dependent regime as a result of a coup d’état. That was not a minor event!

For many years, our country would be trampled upon by the regime which had been installed by the US. So, the starting point for the hostilities was the 28th of Mordad of 1332, it was then [...] They came to the middle of the arena and they launched a coup d’état in an independent country with a national and popular administration which had trusted the Americans – Mosaddeq trusted the Americans and he was punished for that – and they installed a corrupt, malevolent, oppressive and cruel regime. 2. Suppression of student protests to Nixon's visit (December 7, 1953)
It is noteworthy to say that the 16th of Azar of the year 1332[1953] - when three students were murdered in a bloody event - happened almost four months after the 28th of Mordad[Augoust 19th]. That is to say, after the coup d'etat of the 28th of Mordad and after that intense suppression of all forces, this led to an explosion of the students in the University of Tehran. Why did this happen? It was because Nixon, who was the vice-president of America at the time, had come to Iran. Therefore, these students held a strike and demonstration in the environment of the university as a protest to America and Nixon who were the agents of the coup d'etat of the 28th of Mordad. Of course, they were suppressed and three of them were killed. Dec 14, 2008

3. Adoption of the Capitulation Bill (October 13, 1964 / November 4, 1964)
Our dear Imam Khomeini (r.a.), that unique man in our history, stood up against the capitulation proposal and judicial immunity for the Americans, who were in charge of everything at that time. Because of his objection he was exiled out of Iran by the mercenaries of America on the 13th of Aban. On that day when our Imam was exiled, nobody stood by him. Of course, the hearts of the people were with the Imam, but America's mercenaries kidnapped him from his home and exiled him out of Iran on the 13th of Aban[November 4th] in the year 1342 while he was completely alone. Nov 2, 2011

4. Endeavouring to cause the failure of the Islamic Revolution (January 28, 1979)
On the eighth of Bahman[January 28, 1979] – a few days before Imam (r.a.) entered the country. General Huyser, who was America’s agent, came to Iran so that he could maybe save and preserve the regime from the danger of the Revolution. In his memoirs, Huyser writes – this has been recorded in history - “I said to General Gharabaghi, ‘lower your guns in confronting the people.’” it means that you should kill the people and that you should not fire into the air for no reason. Instead, you should massacre the people.

They did the same thing. They lowered their gun barrels and as a result, a number of youth and teenagers were killed, but the crowd did not retreat. Huyser writes, “Later on, Gharabaghi came to me and said, ‘Your order was not effective because it could not make the people move back.’” Huyser then says, “I saw that the Shah’s generals had childish thoughts.” He meant that they should have continued and that they should have killed without any pause. Notice that that regime was a puppet regime. An American general orders an Iranian Arteshbod [Marshall] to massacre his compatriots and he obeys that order and advice. Because it was not effective, he goes to him and says, “It is of no use.” But Huyser says, they are like children and that they think like children. Nov 3, 2015

5. Provoking separatism among ethnic groups (1979-1980)
Since the victory of the Revolution, the US government - both Republican and Democratic Presidents - treated the Islamic Republic unfairly. Everybody knows this. Inciting the few opponents of the Islamic Republic and supporting the separatist groups and terrorist acts were the first measures taken by Americans at the beginning of the Revolution. In every part of the country, in which there was a trace of a separatist movement, we discovered American involvement. Sometimes we could detect their financial support and some other times we could even spot their agents. That caused a lot of harm to our people. Unfortunately, they are still doing the same things. Mar 21, 2009

6. Issuing resolutions against Iran and sheltering the Shah (1980)
In the first months after the victory of the Revolution, the United States Senate issued a strict resolution against the Islamic Republic of Iran, thus beginning its enmity in practice. This was while the U.S. embassy was still open in Iran.

Those people who think that establishing close and friendly relations with America will immunize us against his harm should refer to this historical experience: the U.S. embassy was still open in Iran. The Americans were comfortably coming and going inside the country. The Revolution did not cause the Americans to leave Iran. Like other governments, they had an embassy. They had certain agents and officials. They were living peacefully in Iran, but at that time, the U.S. government showed its enmity towards the Revolution. Besides, it hosted Mohammad Reza who was the definite enemy of the people of Iran. They took and kept him in America. In fact, they gave refuge to the enemy of the people of Iran. Nov 3, 2015

7. Turning the embassy into a center for espionage and conspiracy (the 60s and 70s)

The first political system and government that began to act against our people was America [...] Well, the response and reaction to this move was the move that was made by students. They went and captured the U.S. embassy and it became clear that that embassy was a Den of Espionage. It became clear in the first months after the victory of the Revolution that that place was a center of hatching plots against the Revolution. This was shown and proved through the documents that were published later on from inside the U.S. embassy. Dear youth, you should find and read the documents related to the Den of Espionage because they are instructive [...] These documents show that whether during the peak of the revolutionary movement or when the movement and the Revolution became victorious and the Islamic Republic was formed, they were constantly hatching plots against the Islamic Republic. This is America! These issues are related to post-revolutionary issues.

Following the martyrdom of the honorable general of Islam—Hajj Qasem Soleimani— and the martyrs accompanying him, particularly the great fighter of Islam, Mr. Abu Mahdi Al-Mohamdes, the Leader of the Revolution issued a message.

In the Name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Dear Iranian Nation

The great and accomplished Sardar has become heavenly.  Last night, the untainted souls of the martyrs embraced the pure soul of Qasem Soleimani.  After years of sincere and courageous jihad against the devils and evil-doers of the world and after years of wishing for martyrdom in the path of God, alas, dear Soleimani attained this lofty station and his pure blood was spilled by the most vile of humans.

I congratulate Hazrat Baqiyatullah- may our souls be sacrificed for him- and his own pure soul on this great martyrdom and I express my condolences to the Iranian nation.

He was a stellar example of those educated and nurtured in Islam and the school of Imam Khomeini (ra). He spent his entire life engaging in jihad in the path of God.

Martyrdom was his reward for years of implacable efforts. With his departure and with God's power, his work and path will not cease and severe revenge awaits those criminals who have tainted their filthy hands with his blood and the blood of the other martyrs of last night's incident.

Shahid Soleimani is the international face of the resistance and all who have a heart-felt connection to the resistance seek his blood revenge.

All friends- and indeed all enemies- should know that the path of jihad and resistance continues with increased motivation and certain victory awaits the mujahideen on this blessed path.

The absence of our dear and self-sacrificing Sardar is bitter, but the continuation of the resistance and its final victory will be more bitter for the murderers and criminals.

The Iranian nation will cherish the name and memory of the towering martyr, Shahid Sardar Marshall Qasem Soleimani, together with his fellow martyrs especially the great mujahid of Islam the honorable Mr. Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.I declare three days of public mourning in the country and I congratulate and express my condolences to his honorable wife, dear children and family.

Sayyid Ali Khamenei
13th of Dey, 1398

On the occasion of the auspicious birth of Lady Zaynab al-Kubra (p.b.u.h.), which is called “Nurses Day” in Iran, Khamenei.ir publishes Imam Khamenei's statements about the important role of nurses on the physical and mental health of society.

A nurse plays the role of someone who revives and brings back to life

Nurses play a very important role in the health system of our country. In the absence of kind and caring nurses, the chances that treatment would be ineffective would be very high. Nurses are angel-like people who accompany patients through the long and difficult course of illnesses. Any of us who have suffered a severe illness or undergone a serious operation would testify to this reality. Nurses give life to their patients. That shows the importance of the role of nurses. I would like to advise our male and female nurses and our esteemed midwives to appreciate the value of their services. In fact, being a nurse is a great divine blessing. People should also treat nurses respectfully. Apr 29, 2009

Nursing is one of the most difficult jobs in terms of physical and mental pressures
Nursing is one of the most difficult tasks in terms of the mental and physical pressures that are exerted on a nurse. Sitting beside patients, being with them all the time, listening to their complaints, behaving towards them in a kind way, smiling at them and helping them - with one's actions, behaviour and hospitality - to forget about the pains that they feel during their treatment require iron patience. Nurses have such a condition. There are patients who are in great pain, who are losing hope of living and who have no access to anyone and anywhere - particularly, the children, those who suffer from a chronic disease and those who are receiving intensive care. Notice what a great pressure looking after such people exerts on one's soul, body and nerves. Notice what a great resource of patience, endurance, sacrifice, tolerance and good behaviour is necessary for nurses so that they are able to look after patients.

On the contrary, the behaviour of patients towards nurses is not always kind. Sometimes, they behave in a harsh way towards nurses. Besides patients, their relatives and those who visit them sometimes behave in a complaining and critical way if services are delayed a little bit. They sometimes behave harshly and they sometimes shout at nurses. Enduring such things is very difficult. The difficulty of nursing is not physical. This difficulty is not similar to working with a pickax or working in the difficult environment of a mine, but it is more difficult than such professions in terms of mental pressures.

TEHRAN (FNA)- The US Congress has passed the so-called "Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act of 2019" to turn on a green light for atrocities and any attempt to incite violence to contain China.

The problem is that just like in Iran, the US attempt to incite violence and vandalism won’t work to give the desired result in China. The reasons are plenty.

A large number of facts show that the United States has long been involved in Hong Kong affairs. The Congress proposed from 1984 to 2014 more than 60 bills concerning Hong Kong. WikiLeaks had disclosed that the US Consulate General has repeatedly published opinions aimed at interfering in Hong Kong affairs and frequently met with opposition figures.

From the various support provided by the US National Endowment for Democracy to anti-China elements in Hong Kong, to open meetings between US politicians and Hong Kong's  pro-independence leaders; from some US media's biased reporting on the violence to attempts to implement the long-arm jurisdiction through the latest bill, the intentions of those US politicians to bring trouble to Hong Kong and contain China are clear.

The international community has generally slammed and condemned the acts. Indeed, no country would ever allow violence to disrupt its society and undermine its economy. So the act is detrimental for the United States, and for the world, as well as for China.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Abbas Mousavi has said that the United States' violation of international norms through such acts will definitely cause serious damage to global stability. The United States has become a target of criticism for inciting violence for its own interests and that its attempt to intervene in Iran or in Hong Kong affairs is unpopular and doomed to failure.

However, in the minds of some politicians in the United States, "riots" could be dealt with employing double standards. A riot happening inside the United States must be heavily suppressed. As a result, people have seen US police dealing harshly with the 2011 Occupy Wall Street campaign and the 2015 Baltimore riots in Maryland. When it comes to external riots in Iran or Hong King, the same politicians immediately change their tones and paint the "riots" as "a beautiful sight to behold".

They ignited and instigated riots, launched wars and "color revolutions", plunging many places in the world into chaos in order to seek political interests and safeguard US global hegemony.

In the past few decades, wherever the United States intervened, turmoil and poverty have been commonplace. That's why when some US politicians professed to stand with Iran or Hong Kong, many netizens ridiculed them. Thus is because when they stood with Libya, Syria, Iraq, and Yemen, they were all burned to the ground.

A just cause attracts much support, while an unjust one finds little. By publicly supporting violence in Iran and Hong Kong, the politicians in the United States have seriously violated the basic norms of international law and international relations, and invited uncertainties to the future of their own country.

For example, the United States ignited war and turmoil in the Middle East, which has helped brew a large-scale refugee crisis, and had a tremendous impact on the social order of the Western countries. Its wrong policies and interventions in Latin America have contributed a major role in triggering major flow of illegal immigration into the United States.

Iran is not a kite in the hands of some Americans who could pull it as they wish. Iran’s resolve to implement its Islamic-democratic principles and resist any outside interference in its internal affairs is unwavering. Any attempt to incite violence to contain Iran’s progress is simply not going to work. The same could be concluded about China’s rise.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Rayeesi called on the international community to take action against the US sanctions which prevent imports of the Iranian patients' much needed medication.

The US which has failed in all its plots and seditions against Iran, "has adopted other measures, including prevention of imports of drugs to Iran", Rayeesi said, addressing the judiciary officials in Tehran on Monday.

He described the US sanctions as clear instance of "economic terrorism and crime against humanity", saying, "The international community should be vigilant and know that the US violates the nations' rights wherever it can and therefore, real action is needed against the US impudence."

In relevant remarks in November, Iranian Vice-President and Head of the Management and Planning Organization (MPO) Mohammad Baqer Nobakht lashed out at Washington’s economic terrorism against his country, reminding that Tehran is facing hardships to import needed food and medication at the same time that it is banned from selling oil.

Nobakht said that the US had created obstacles for import of food and medicines, adding that they had attempted to prevent export of a single barrel of oil as well.

Also, early in December, Head of Iran's Food and Drug Administration (IFDA) and Deputy Health Minister Mohammadreza Shanehsaz said that Washington's sanctions and the recent warning issued by the US Treasury Department was meant to be a coup against the Iranian patients, particularly those with special needs.

"They have declared in the letter that they will provide a special line to supply drugs and medical equipment but they use policing methods to threaten the pharmaceutical companies that in case of providing Iran with medicine and medical equipment, they will not be allowed to export to the EU and the US," Shanehsaz told FNA.

He added that the US measures have created problems for Iran in supplying drugs to the special patients.

Tehran (ISNA) – Iranian teenage rock climber claimed championship in IFSC Climbing Asian Youth Championship in female speed, in addition to winning medals in bouldering and lead climbing.

In the last day of IFSC Climbing Asian Youth Championships which took place in Bengaluru, India, Mahya Darabian snatched two gold medals in the female youth A speed and bouldering categories and a silver medal in lead category, competing with Japanese and Korean competitors.

Brotherhood and Fellowship in Islam (Part 3)

The Imam ordered me to get up and see to the affairs of my co-religionist brother. I rose at once and did my best to get enough money for the man's fare, and after giving it to him, I returned to the Imam's session. The Imam asked me what I had done for that man. I reported that with God's aid his affair was put in order. The Imam said: ‘Remember that if you help your co-religionist brother, you will be held in a greater esteem by me than for the performance of weeklong circumambulation of the House of God by you’ and then added: ‘A man came to Imam Hassan (PBUH) and asked for assistance in his own difficulty.

The Imam put on his shoes at once and went out with him. On the way they reached a spot where Imam Hossain (PBUH) was engaged in prayer. Imam Hassan asked the man: ‘Why didn't you refer to Hossain to help you in your difficulty?’ The man answered: ‘O, son of the prophet of God! I intended to do so, but he is in his spiritual seclusion, so I did not go to him.’ Imam Hassan said: ‘But if he had received the favour of aiding you, it would have been better for him than one month's spiritual seclusion’”(1)

Imam Sadiq (PBUH) says:

ما قضی مسلم لمسلم حاجۀ الا ناداه الله تبارک و تعالی علی ثوابک و لا ارضی لک بدون الجنه

“Every Muslim who removes the need of his Muslim brother is promised a reward by God, and I think no reward other than heaven is adequate for him.” (2)

A man called Abdol-A'ela who was a distinguished Shi'a, left Kufa for Medina. The Shi'a followers of Imam Sadiq wrote down the questions on the issues they had in mind, and gave them to him in order to receive the answers back from the Imam through him. They also asked him on being received by the Imam to request him to explain the rights of a Muslim towards his co-religionist brother. Abdol-A'ela says: “When I found the honour of meeting the Imam, he answered all the questions but said nothing about the rights of co-religionist brethren. On the following days, too, the Imam made no reference to this matter. When my stay in Medina came to an end, and I went to beg leave from the Imam, I reminded him that my question was still unanswered.

He said: “I deliberately abstained from giving an answer”. I asked the reason, and he said: “I fear to explain since you may not act upon it and thus abandon your religion of God.” Then he added: “Of the hardest things that God has made obligatory for his servants there are three matters: firstly, the observance of justice and equity between oneself and others, meaning that one should treat his co-religionist brethren in the same way that one expects others to treat oneself. Secondly, one should show fellowship to one's co-religionist brethren, and aid them with his wealth and thirdly, one should, under all conditions, remember God, and by that I do not mean that one should keep on repeating the phrases ‘Glory be to God’ or ‘God be praised’. What I mean is that upon coming across a forbidden act, one should remember God and thus abstain from committing such an act.”(3)

These teachings had penetrated the spirit of the followers of Islam so deeply that their conduct cannot be compared with that of any nation. We have given several examples of this, and books of history abound in such cases of brotherhood and fellowship. Now that many centuries have passed since the advent of Islam, and humanity has made the so called "astonishing progress" in industries and technologies, not only is this noble human quality not observed in advanced countries, but rather the exact reverse of it exists there.

A writer says about the relations of Europeans with each other: “The relations of people with each other are cold and devoid of deep-rooted feelings. It seems that true affection, which is an emotional relationship illuminating life, has been crushed under the wheels of industry. Basically, there is no sign of self-sacrifice, indulgence and sympathy at all, and the number of one's friends may not exceed the number of one's fingers.” When the writer was confined in hospital, though my visitors were not many, I could claim that their number was greater than that of the visitors of the German patients in that ward of the hospital. This was quite surprising for the hospital staff, since one rarely saw a German visiting his sick relative. Here I will narrate an interesting incident as a living proof of my claim so that you may see the extent of the kindness and affection of civilized nations.

A few years ago, a professor from a German university embraced Islam in the presence of the director of an Islamic group in Hamburg. Sometime later, this convert Muslim was confined in a hospital due to some sickness. The director of the Islamic group, learning of his sickness, went to visit him, but was unexpectedly faced with the sad and depressed countenance of the professor. He asked the reason for his depression and discomfort.

The professor who until that moment, had kept silent and was immersed in his own thoughts, began to speak, and narrated his amazing but unfortunate account as follows: “Today my wife and son came to visit me. The hospital ward informed them that I was suffering from cancer. While leaving the hospital, they addressed me and said: ‘We are told today that you are dying of cancer, and only a few days of your life are left. So we say good-bye to you for the last time and you must excuse us from paying another visit.’ He added then: ‘This noticeable pain and mental depression is not due to a feeling that the doors of hope are shut against me and that I despair of life. It is rather due to the unfair and inhuman behavior of my wife and son which has given me such a severe depression.”

The director of the Islamic group, who was deeply moved at the professor's uneasiness, said: “As Islam has strongly emphasized the matter of visiting the sick, I will come to see you whenever I find an opportunity.” One hearing these words, there emerged a happy smile on the professor's face. His physical condition however became worse and after some time he died. A number of Muslims went to the hospital to attend his funeral and burial rites, and carried the body of the convert to the cemetery. But the matter did not end here. At the moment of the burial, a young man, looking angry, arrived and said: “Where is the professor's corpse?” They asked: “Are you related to the deceased?” He said: “Yes he is my father. I have come to deliver his body to the hospital for autopsy; for, a few days before his death, I sold his body to the hospital for thirty German marks.”

But in spite of his insistence, those present opposed him and he was obliged to let the matter drop. Later on, when the young man was asked what his profession was, he said that he worked in a factory in the morning, and did hairdressing for dogs in the afternoon.

This bitter incident truly shows how human kindness and affection are declining in the civilized society. Today, too, the retrogressing course of humanity in terms of noble qualities, and outburst of social depravity are undeniable. Great thinkers, confessing this bitter truth, are looking for a remedy, and are deeply pained at this unpleasant situation. They know well what the sickness is, and feel that a fundamental combat with this carelessness and perversity, and building up a new world hinges on faith and virtue.

Those who are submerged in this kind of life, have realized that this is an empty life which can never offer happiness to mankind. It is interesting to hear this frank and clear confession from the present President of America on the occasion of taking the oath of office. He said: “We consider ourselves rich in commodities, but our spirit is unstable. While we land on the moon with brilliant skill, we are involved with a crushing dispersion on the earth. We are involved in war, while we desire peace. Discord has separated us, while we are looking for unity. We see empty lives all around us, while we long for satisfaction. In the face of a spiritual crisis which has afflicted us, we are in need of a spiritual response. To find such an answer we should only look at ourselves. When we listen to the call of conscience, we shall see that it respects such simple and basic things as goodness, purity, love, and kindness.”

It is by means of attention to these facts that every just person involuntarily bows to the great legislator of Islam - a legislator who, by paying attention to all the physical, spiritual and instinctive needs of man, has enacted such happiness-giving laws which are in harmony with human nature and logic, and which respond to all wishes. These are the laws which have, for many centuries, been carried out and have produced satisfactory results. They are the laws which have not merely stayed in a written from, but have also been executed in their full sense, without meeting any difficulty in their enforcement.

The more we look at the confessions of western thinkers, the more we feel their social and psychological disorders, and eventually we further appreciate and praise the pure, chaste and heavenly Islam. In conclusion, what should be remembered is that all Muslim are duty-bound to propagate the teaching of Islam without any adornment, and especially acquaint the young with these injunctions of Islam so that the spirit of brotherhood and fellowship, which has existed for many centuries in the Muslim society, may be strengthened, and under the auspices of this Islamic brotherhood, we may proceed towards true happiness.
