Tehran’s Message to Washington: US Warships Within Range of Iran’s Defensive Capabilities

As the US seeks to extend the scope of economic restrictions against the Islamic Republic of Iran to the maritime domain—as part of its "maximum pressure" policy—senior Iranian defense and security officials have explicitly stated the country's readiness to counter this approach. These stances demonstrate a disconnect between Washington’s calculations regarding the costs of confronting Iran and the reality of the nation's defensive capabilities.

In this context, Brigadier General Seyed Majid Ebn-ol-Reza, Acting Minister of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics, responded to a question about Iran's ability to target warships participating in the economic blockade of the country by stating unequivocally: "Rest assured that we possess this capability, and—God willing—you will witness the results."

This statement should be viewed alongside the recent remarks of Major General Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council; he noted that Washington has received a clear warning regarding Iran's new missiles and declared that the economic war would be met with a response involving the establishment of a maritime exclusion zone across the Persian Gulf, extending to the blockade area.
