US federal immigration officers, who claimed to be acting on behalf of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), have detained a prominent pro-Palestinian Columbia University student.

Mahmoud Khalil, a recent Columbia University graduate who helped lead last year's solidarity protests in support of the Gaza Strip, was detained on Saturday at his university-owned apartment block from Columbia’s Manhattan campus in New York City.

US law requires federal officers to have an arrest warrant to enter non-public university areas, including apartment buildings.

Upon arrest, Khalil contacted his lawyer, Amy Greer, to intervene by phone. His lawyer asked the two plainclothes immigration agents why his client was being detained, and whether they had an arrest warrant, while explaining to them that Khalil was a green card holder. The agents hung up the phone on Khalil's lawyer.

“He has a green card,” an agent, confused by the revelation, reported to his superior on the phone. But then after a moment, the agent claimed that the State Department had “revoked that too.”

The State Department "has broad authority to revoke visas … under the Immigration and Nationality Act,” media quoted a department spokesperson as saying.

The Department “exercise[s] that authority when information comes to light at any time indicating that a visa holder may be inadmissible to the United States or otherwise ineligible for a visa,” the spokesperson added.

Khalil, who is a Palestinian, was initially kept in custody at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office in downtown New York. However, his attorney said that he was moved to the Elizabeth Contract Detention Facility in New Jersey.

Greer told media, “We have not been able to get any more details about why he is being detained.”  “This is a clear escalation," she insisted.

Khalil's detainment comes as US President Donald Trump vows to deport foreign students and imprison “agitators” involved in protests against the Israeli genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza.

During last year's protest, Khalil was one of the most visible faces of the pro-Palestinian movement at Columbia. As students set up tents on campus last spring, Khalil was picked to serve as a negotiator on behalf of students and met frequently with university administrators.

"The administration is following through on its threats,” Khalil's lawyer Greer told media.

In related news, the Trump administration mounted pressure on Columbia by canceling grants worth $400 million to the university under the pretext of combating “Anti-Semitism” harassment at schools and on college campuses.

Only 14 Democrats in the US Congress have signed a letter calling for the release of Palestinian student-activist and Green Card holder Mahmoud Khalil.

Kahlil was detained at Columbia University over leading the 2024 solidarity protests in support of the Gaza Strip.

“We are horrified by the recent illegal abduction and now indefinite detention of Mahmoud Khalil—a US legal permanent resident—by Department of Homeland Security agents, and we unequivocally demand his immediate release from DHS custody,” they wrote in a letter on Tuesday.

The congressional Democrats went on to say that “Khalil has not been charged or convicted of any crime,” stressing that as the administration of US President Donald Trump proudly admits, “he was targeted solely for his activism and organizing.”

“We must be extremely clear: this is an attempt to criminalize political protest and is a direct assault on freedom of speech of everyone in this country,” they added.

However, the fact that only 14 congressional Democrats have felt compelled enough to publicly support Khalil has raised questions as to why more Democrats are not speaking up against his arrest.

Despite his legal status as a green card holder, which grants him permanent residency in the US, Khalil was detained in a manner that his legal team has challenged as unlawful.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has denounced as “lawless” the Department of Homeland Security's decision to arrest Khalil because of his “peaceful anti-genocide activism,” saying it represents “a blatant attack on the First Amendment's guarantee of free speech, immigration laws, and the very humanity of Palestinians."

Yemen announces resumption of military operations targeting Israeli vessels in key maritime regions off its coastline following the expiration of a deadline for the Israeli regime to reopen the Gaza Strip’s crossings and allow aid into the war-wrecked and impoverished Palestinian territory.

The Yemeni Armed Forces issued the announcement on Wednesday, saying the strikes would resume as per a relevant decree issued by Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, leader of the country’s Ansarullah resistance movement.

The Ansarullah leader had given the regime four days before reopening the crossings that Tel Aviv has shut down as a means of trying to force the Gaza-based resistance movement Hamas into releasing the rest of the Zionist captives that it holds in the coastal sliver.

The shutdown is also meant to mount immense pressure on the Palestinians in Gaza, who have already been suffering under a 15-month-plus war of genocide by Tel Aviv.

“With mediators failing to achieve these objectives (having the regime reopen the terminals and let in aid supplies), Yemen has escalated its stance in support of the Palestinian people,” the Armed Forces’ statement noted.

“Effective immediately, all Israeli ships are prohibited from navigating the designated operational zones, encompassing the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden,” they noted.

The forces warned that any Israeli vessels attempting to breach the ban would be targeted within the specified areas of operation.

“This prohibition will remain until the crossings into the Gaza Strip are reopened and humanitarian aid, including essential food and medicine, is permitted entry,” the statement read.

The forces finally reiterated solidarity with the resilient Palestinian population in both the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank, which has similarly come under escalated deadly Israeli aggression, reaffirming their “unwavering support for the Palestinian resistance.”

Yemeni officials, including al-Houthi himself, had, upon issuing the deadline, emphasized that the Yemeni troops were fully prepared to reinitiate operations against the regime if humanitarian aid was not allowed into Gaza.

Imam Sadiq (a.s.) narrated from Imam Kazim (a.s.) from his father (a.s.) that the Imam said to Abu Hanifa: “Which Surah begins with Hamd, is in the middle with Ikhlas, and ends with Dua?” Abu Hanifa was surprised and said: “I don’t know.” The Imam (a.s.) said: “The Surah that begins with Hamd, is in the middle with Ikhlas, and ends with Dua is Surah Hamd.”

One of the virtues of Hazrat Khadijah (S) is her position in Paradise that God has promised her. The Holy Prophet (S) also gave Khadijah the good news of this many times and said: "In Paradise, you will have a house where you will not see suffering and hardship." Imam Sadiq (A.S) also says: When Khadijah (S) passed away, the young Fatimah was impatient and would go around her father and ask him for her mother. The Prophet (S) became even more saddened by this state of his little daughter and sought a way to comfort her. Fatimah continued to be impatient until Gabriel descended to the Prophet (S) and said: "Give greetings to Fatimah (S) and tell her that your mother is sitting in a house in Paradise next to Asiyah, the wife of Pharaoh, and Maryam, the daughter of Imran." When Fatima (s.a.) heard this, she calmed down and was no longer impatient.

1- Hazrat Khadijah is the first wife of the Prophet (S).

2- She is the first person who lived the longest with the Prophet (S) (25 years).

3- She is the first woman who believed in the Holy Prophet (S).

4- She was the first supporter of the Prophet (S) among women.

5- She is the first self-sacrificer who gave all her wealth to the Prophet (S).

Hazrat Khadijah had the insight with which she was able to see the light of prophethood in the Holy Prophet (S) and believed in the Prophet without hesitation and stood alone against all disbelief. We are all indebted to the efforts of Hazrat Khadijah the Great (S). Therefore, none of the wives of the Prophet (S) have the position that Hazrat Khadijah (S) has. The other wives of the Prophet (PBUH) became his wives after the mission and when the problems had subsided, but Hazrat Khadijah (PBUH) became his wife 15 years before the mission.

Hazrat Khadijah (PBUH) is one of the clear examples of the verse “And those who preceded, those who are brought near.” Doesn’t the Quran say that those who fought and spent before the conquest of Mecca are not equal to those who fought and spent after the conquest of Mecca, and is someone who honored the Prophet (PBUH) before Islam equal to someone who married him after Islam and after the Prophet (PBUH) became the head of the government?

In Sermon 192, known as the Qasa’a Sermon, the Commander of the Faithful says: At the beginning of Islam, there was no house that had accepted Islam except one house in which the Prophet (PBUH) was, Khadijah the Great, and I was the third person. This means that Khadijah the Great (S) was the first person to believe after the Prophet (PBUH).

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was single until the age of 25, and according to all historical documents and texts, he lived a life of ultimate chastity and holiness throughout these 25 years of adolescence and youth.

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) married Khadijah at the age of 25, and until his death, 25 years later, Khadijah (PBUH) was the only wife of the Prophet (PBUH).

It is noteworthy that the Prophet (PBUH) remained in mourning for Hazrat Khadijah for 3 years and did not take a wife, and in fact, Khadijah (PBUH) was the first wife of the Prophet among his wives who had the longest married life with him.

From here, the answer to the doubt about the Prophet's polygamy is given well; Because the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had only one wife from his youth to middle age, and three years after his wife's death, due to the political and social conditions of that day and the promotion and spread of Islam in the peninsula, he entered into multiple marriages.

According to Mehr News Agency, citing Al-Ma'alumah, informed sources announced that the terrorists affiliated with the Jolani have formed mobile squads whose mission is to erase the traces of the Alawite genocide in the coastal cities of Syria.
