Iran puts advanced jet into operation for first time during major joint drills

The Iranian Army has debuted a new advanced jet The Iranian Army has debuted a new advanced jet during major joint maneuvers enlisting the force’s various divisions in the country’s southern coastline and waters as well as part of the Indian Ocean.

 

The Yak-130 aircraft participated in its first-ever operation as part of the Army’s underway Zolfaqar 1403 maneuvers on Monday.

 

Brigadier General Alireza Sheikh, spokesman for the drills, identified the mission partaken by the combat aircraft as a

“joint operation,” throughout which the jet “showcased a portion of its advanced and unique capabilities."

 

According to the official, the operation saw the aircraft participate in intercepting and destroying a target drone alongside two MiG-29 fighter jets.

 

During the development, the MiG-29 pilots successfully identified and intercepted the target “with great skill” before the Yak-130 jet, equipped with advanced missiles, completely destroyed the drone, Sheikh said.

This operation highlighted the high level of coordination and capability within the Air Force to execute complex aerial missions, he noted.

 

Emphasizing the success of the joint operation, Sheikh reiterated that "this exercise demonstrated the excellent coordination and cooperation among different aircraft in the Air Force. The successful participation of the Yak-130 in this exercise paves the way for broader use of this jet in future missions and strengthens the country’s defensive capabilities."

 

‘A turning point’

 

"The debut of the Yak-130 in these exercises marks a turning point in showcasing the capabilities of the Air Force," said the official.

 

He identified the combat plane as one with a modern design and high operational capabilities.

 

The spokesman went on to say, "The inclusion of the Yak jet in the Zolfaqar 1403 exercises underscores the remarkable progress the Air Force has made in updating its fleet and utilizing advanced technologies."

 

The official further pointed out that with its unique features, the aircraft had significantly boosted the Air Force’s ability to counter threats.

Observers say the landmark achievement not only demonstrates Iran’s growing technological advancements in military aviation, but also exemplifies the increasing capabilities of the Iranian Air Force to adapt to and counter emerging aerial threats.
